Although 3D printing has gone through a rapid development over the years, it fails to achieve a widespread adoption due to the gap between easily accessible hardware devices and software modeling skills which are difficult to obtain. Many online modeling platforms have risen and been designed to bridge the gap, while they either lack of support for advanced deformation or fall short of user-friendliness.
This project proposes an 3D modeling tool which strives to maintain the user-friendliness and the robustness. The development is based on a prototype and the main tasks focus on the implementation of surface skinning and digital sculpting to allow freeform surface modeling.
This project is a further development based on a previous web-based 3D modeling prototype developed by Dr. Chan Bin.
