We all learned about the slogan "Blue for paper, yellow for cans and brown for plastics. Everyday, Hong Kong has 4 tons of materials being transported from recycling bins to a conveyor belt for recycling after selected by workers. However, it was reported that only 60% of them are recyclable. (Cheng, Tang, 2016). Landfill saturation is threatening Hong Kong. Why is this happening?
Hong Kong’s waste management process is very inefficient and unhygienic because all materials are to be processed by workers one by one. Besides, due to the lack of workers and poor waste management actions of the people, a lot of collected materials are being forced to be disposed.
The Earth ARMour is exactly replacing the job of current waste management workers with less time, a more through, more hygienic and more economical work.
The Earth ARMour is a 30cm tall intelligent 3D printed robotic arm that is designed to help the situation mentioned.
It is embedded with a digital camera in the front of the arm and a computer.
It works likes a human as if it has an eye, a brain and an arm to complete waste collection tasks.
It can be installed onto or be removed from a regular rubbish bin conveniently to have the job done.
