Background

Nowadays, a rising number of games are developed and published. From 2003 to 2018, PC game digital distribution platform “Steam” had reached total of over 30,000 games. However, with the lack of breakthrough on the games, game players are not satisfied to have only virtual experience in the PC, PS4, Xbox, etc. As a result, game developers try to combine the virtual world with the actual world, so that Virtual Reality (VR) games, Augmented Reality (AR) games, or even Mixed Reality (MR) games are created.

Although both VR games, AR games and MR games are connecting the physical and virtual game experiences, they are totally different in definition. For VR game, it is a way to generate realistic images, sounds, and other sensations that put you smack in the middle of a spectacular imaginary world. It is like the Japanese light novel “Sword Art Online”, this novel imagines different VR worlds, where the novel characters enters these worlds using a headset. For AR game, it expands our physical world, adding layers of digital information onto it, such as Pokemon Go. Unlike VR game, AR does not create the whole artificial environments to replace real with a virtual one. AR appears in direct view of an existing environment and adds different elements to it. For MR game, it combines the features of VR game and AR game. Player can interact with both physical and virtual items and environments.
