Q: Who can join? Is there any requirement for participants? A: Everyone is welcome to join even you are a non-engineering student. The only one requirement for participants is that you should be really interested in this activity, and be self-motivated and hardworking to learn algorithms and improve your programming skills. Q: How to join the Facebook group? A: Our Facebook group is a secret fans page. In order to join it, you can first add Luyi (facebook.com/luyi.mo), Soso (facebook.com/soso.so) or Chun (facebook.com/waichun) as a friend at FB, and indicate your interest in our group. We will then invite you there. Q: Where can I find the training schedule? A: You can get this information from our FB group. After the schedule is confirmed, we will also announce it in our homepage. Q: What's the exact schedule for individual contest? Will it affect my chance to local and regional contest? A: The schedule will be announced later. But this individual contest is just held for fun. You can simply take it as a test of your ability and a chance for you to compete with other students in our university. Don't take it too serious. Q: When is the local contest in 2013? A: Probably in June. Last year, the exact contest date was June 16 and the registration deadline for university was May 16. For more details, please refer to the contest's page: http://acmhk.cse.ust.hk/programming_contest.php Q: Do I need to win the local contest in order to advance to Asia regional contest? A: No. There is no direct relation between the local contest and regional contest. If you can get a high ranking in local contest, you will be awarded attractive prizes. But that's all for the local contest itself. Your performance in local contest won't affect your chance to regional contests. Q: How can I attend Asia regional contest? A: Every year, we can support 4 teams to regional contests. There will be a few team selection tests held in Sep and Oct. We will select teams based on your performance in these tests. Q: If I don't form a team right now, could I still join the ACM activities? A: Yes, of course. A team or a study group is something that may help you in your self-learning. It's fine if you don't form a team now. You can also come to our training directly and join the individual contest (which is just held for fun). But for local and regional contest, a team is compulsary. Q: How many teams can attend local contest, and when is the team selection date. A: Probably we can only support 5 to 6 teams to local contest. If no more than 6 teams want to join, we won't have team selection test. But if a lot teams show their interests in the contest, a team selection test will be held in May (before the final exam period). Q: Is it okay to form two different teams for local contest and regional contest? A: Yes. Q: What kind of problems will be used in the contests or team formation tests? A: You can refer to the problemsets we used in the team selection contests in 2012 for more details. The links can be found in our homepage.
