A social mobile application that matches users to events based on their connections and interests. The purpose of the app is to bring together individuals with shared interests in all kinds of social events and activities. This app will not only allow users to look up suitable meetup activities, but also meet new friends and set up event groups on the fly. No more asking everyone what they’re doing – just look them up on our app and see what people are up to.
Behind the scenes, when Django typed in the name of the restaurant, he was notified about the people in the vicinity who are going there. This is where the big data comes in. His preference for pizza affects the future suggestions that he might get from the app – if Django is a pizza lover he can sign up for notifications whenever a group of people decide to go out for pizza. The more people use the app the more data we will be able to collect about each users’ preferences and the suggestions will be customized for every person. The app can also be used for scheduling events that are not necessarily happening in the near future. People can plan meetings, talks, conferences, and see who is attending them – this functionality could potentially be used to generate revenue, as companies can advertise activities that are relevant to their business. We will start with writing an extendable framework for a mobile application, so that new functionality can be implemented with ease. We will also set up a backend for data analysis about the current user base – having basic info about the people and their preferences gives us the opportunity to identify patterns to use for ranking algorithms.
