Introduction
Project Name :
|
Robust Face Detection and Reconstruction Method that address inherent limitations in Face Recognition Technology (ITS/174/08)

|
|
|
Objective :
|
The objective of this project is to study and address the limitations in the state-of-the-art of face
recognition technologies. Although face recognition technologies have been quite mature and
have been deployed in many application area such as access control, identity verification at
immigration control, etc. However, they normally cannot work very well with non-frontal-view
face images, such as those captured from surveillance cameras. As a result, the application
scenarios of face recognition technologies for use with the abundantly available surveillance
cameras have not been fully exploited. In this project, we will develop technologies that
specifically address this limitation in face recognition. Instead of reinventing the wheel in face
recognition technology, the scope of this project focuses only on the approaches that transform
non-frontal-view face images back to the one that is favorable to face recognition. We intend
to develop enabling technologies so that a lot more application scenarios for face recognition
can be exploited.
