Q1 : I am an undergraduate student. I am not sure whether to apply M.Phil. or Ph.D. programme, will the choice impact my application result ?
Generally, apply M.Phil. or Ph.D. programme will not impact your application result. For undergraduate students, you can apply for M.Phil. first.
Q2 : Do I have to contact a professor in my area of interest before submitting the application?
You may choose to contact a potential supervisor to seek help in formulating your research plan. But this is not mandatory. It is not required that you get a professor to agree to be your supervisor before submitting the application.
Q3: I am not major in computer science, can I apply the early recruitment scheme of HKUCS? Is GRE subject test necessary?
Yes, you can apply. There is no strict requirement for you to take GRE Subject test, but we will surely consider it if you have the results.
Q4: Do I need to attach my transcripts to the application form?
Yes. If you are graduating in the summer of coming year, then please attach the transcript for the courses you have taken so far.
Q5: How competitive is the admission process?
The CS Department admitted around 25 students from about 300 applicants in each of the past few years.
