And here it is the "official" homepage which may look better but probably contain information that's less up to date.

Okay, I've met the requirements that contact information should be posted prominently in my homepage. Now I'm getting informal.

8) Beta says hello to you!

Good day! I'm YIP Chi Lap [Beta]. Nice to meet you here.

This homepage was first designed in about 1995, and improvements, if any, was only incremental. So, you can probably find a lot of history here.

Welcome to my homepage. The Copyright message is at the end of this page. I don't really need disclaimers, but it's nice if you like this "standard" disclaimer I got from the net.

Multimedia Lab

The department closed the multimedia lab in July 2009 to claim space for teaching lab with PCs in it. The dual G5 machines and other equipments are to be decommissioned.

10 iMacs were purchased with Final Cut Express and Logic Express for multimedia teaching. They are to be placed in the dot net lab in Chow Yei Ching Building.

The chroma screen is kept in the same place there without being repainted. It is just a few minutes of walk away from the newly purchased iMacs.

Because of cost, gone are the professional software in the lab that were also used in the multimedia industry, such as Final Cut Pro, Digital Performer, Protools, and others.

I'm trying to revive some of the working dual G5 machines (running Tiger), and is investigating how to revive some of the old software (FCP4.5, DP4.6, MAX/MSP 4.5.2) so that they can be used. The technical staff has removed most of the hardware and nothing much can be done about it. Please email me at clyip at cs dot hku dot hk if you have any comments. Thank you.

Here are the old pages of the Multimedia lab:

Beta's recommended software

Here is a list of software I recommend. Most of them are free. For those commercial products, I've tried them out and like them.

Gamelan

Gamelan!

Yes, I play these Indonesian music instruments. Here are some resources related to it.

Beta's original ideas!

Beta's original stuff! Including Beta's original photo collection! plus some flower photos!
You like flowers too? I have a set of new flower photos, just see when I'll have the time to scan them in and place them on the web.
