Like it or not, music is all around us. We cheer and communicate using specific rhythms, and every day little tunes alert us that a message, an email, or a phone call has arrived. Celebration tunes bring us a vibrant atmosphere, and a sad song fits a gloomy day. Music and sound effects enhance the mood of a movie, and the first synchronization of a sound track to a movie was considered a feat.
Breaking from our utilitarian thoughts, music is fun. From banging of inflated stick balloons in concerts to participating in an orchestra,
To make music, we need something that makes sound, an instrument. Inflated stick balloons, wooden stick and metal plate, bamboo flute, erhu, tabla, handpan, piano, or replay of your recorded voice, whatever that makes music, sound that shows artistic appeal, are musical instruments.
Artists strive to create something novel. Composers create tunes and melodies that has never been heard before. Sound artists create new sounds that appeal audiences. Performers interpret music in a different way every time he or she performs.
In this competition, participants are to create musical instruments, use them to perform short pieces, and show them to each other. It is a platform to exercise creativity and technical skills through the design of the instrument and in the performance, and to exchange experiences with other participants, the organisers, and supporting parties.
