Abstract:

Power consumption is increasingly an important design constraint in both software and hardware across the boards in computer systems. For mobile devices, the resulting battery life is the top purchase driver to the buyers. This talk introduces Intel’s leading silicon technology in mass production and its advancements in performance per watt in recent generations. On top of that, the talk reviews the long road for system power management to achieve energy efficiency, and then shares the thoughts looking into where we are going and the key challenges and opportunities ahead.

Biography:

Yuyang Du is a senior software developer in Software and Services Group in Intel. His work focuses on system software performance and power optimization. For the past 3 years, he leads the engineering effort of multi-core scheduling across generations of Intel mobile platforms. Yuyang received his PhD degree from Tsinghua University in 2011 and joined Intel afterwards. Apart from work, he is an active Linux kernel developer and he lives in Beijing, China.
